NINE LAKHS TONS OF U.S FOOD AID TO INDIA | DECEMBER 1966

President Johnson informed India's Ambassador, Mr. R. K. Nehru, this evening that he was releasing 900,000 tons of foodgrains for immediate delivery to India.

Before making the announcement, President Johnson assured himself that he an count on Congressional support in the massive food aid to India.

He awaited the reports of the two Congressional teams which submitted them today. Senators McGee and Moss spoke to to the President by telephone at his Texas ranch today. The second team apparently telegraphed its recommendations.
